What makes a good Hypnotist

So what does it take to be a Hypnotist?

Well I believe you have to like people.  You have to be friendly and approachable and have very good listening skills.  There’s nothing worst then paying to see a professional who does all the talking then proceeds to do the same routine that is used on all clients.  How inappropriate.  So being a Hypnotist means really listening to clients so we can understand why they have come to see us.  Only then can we decide whether hypnosis can help them.  If I can’t, then I like to know that I have enough resources to refer people on to more appropriate practitioners.

I went to see a hypnotist a few years ago who had been trained in only one method which is the NLP based Ericksonian.  It had no effect on me at all.  Now the counsellor was probably very good at hypnotising people if they could relax their mind.  My mind goes at about 100 miles a second.  I spent the time analysing her methods  and approach and wondered when the session would finish.  So dare I say that the hypnosis session was sadly unsuccessful.

So some of my most recent Hypnosis training has been with Larry & Cheryl Elman.  Larry’s dad was the famous Hypnotist of the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s Dave Elman who actually did stage hypnosis for awhile until he moved into more serious hypnosis and started training doctors, anaesthetists and dentists in the States.  He is renown for his induction known as the “Elmanian Induction”.  This is the induction I use as it gets past the conscious mind so we can work with the subconscious.

In fact here we all are at the Graduation Ceremony when I became a fully pledged Hypnotist.  I am with Larry and Cheryl Elman.

I have been living in Cairns for 12 months now.  It was a big move, our final one though.  I had to leave behind my gorgeous son and my wonderful supportive friends and my business.  Thank goodness for Face Book.  Setting up a new Hypnosis  business is something I have done before as we have moved around Australia a few times starting in Adelaide then living on Christmas Island for many years then moving back to Adelaide which we found to be far too cold for us after so many years in the tropics.  Brisbane was our next move and as much as I liked living there and made some life long friends, I always new it was transitional.

I love living in Cairns.  I love the people; I love everything about the place….well not the toads that find their way into my pot plants.

And I love setting up my new exciting Hypnosis business.  Why would I enjoy setting up a new Hypnosis business?  Well it means I am really concentrating on my business.   I am totally focussed on it, sending off all that positive stuff out to the universe which means that it is all sent back to me threefold.

I have to know my market.  I have to be sure of the words I use in advertising and networking when I talk about Hypnosis.  I have to be aware of who else is here in Cairns offering the same Hypnosis service or something similar.   And all this means networking!

Cairns is certainly a place for networking.  I went to 5 networking events last week.

It’s a good thing I love being a Hypnotist and that I love talking about it.  I have to be careful though…not to bore people into a trance…Heck that could have some interesting results!

So after 12 months of living here, how do I feel about it all?  Well I am starting to be recognised when I go to different events.  Hopefully that has nothing to do with the colour of my hair, but if that’s why…. well heck…it really doesn’t matter does it!  It means that people are remembering me and hopefully as a Hypnotist.

I was approached at one networking event and asked if I was the sex therapist.  My answer of course was that indeed I am the Hypnotherapist…not that I call myself a therapist AT ALL….that is not the service I offer.  That is not what Hypnosis is all about.  However this woman did recognise me as a regular to the lunch and now knows exactly what I do……

So more of what I offer next time…and perhaps I’ll talk about the difference between being a Hypnotist and a Hypnotherapist…..speak soon

I made the November edition of CairnsLife magazine.  It gave me an opportunity to talk a bit about my business and Hypnosis.  I could only use 250 words which was limiting however I was able to talk about Hypnosis and answer some of the questions that I am asked.  For example people quite often beleive that when they are hypnotised they are asleep so I need to explain that indeed they are awake and fully aware of everything that is said during the session.  I also squashed the rumour that Hypnotists can make people cluck like a chicken.  If that were the case then there would be thousands of people walking around clucking for no apparent reason.  I am NOT a stage Hypnotist. I am serious about helping people to get to core issues and eliminating the negative experience and emotions and flipping it so that people can move on with their lives. Hypnosis does that.  Especially when the Hypnotist has been trained in the most up tp date methods which I have.
I use the Elman Induction so I can relax your body and your conscious mind known as the 'Critical Factor'.  That means I talk directly to the Subconscious mind where the permanent memory is.  It's like going into a computer and reprograming it.
Well I wasn't able to write all of the above, however with this exposure I am looking forward to all of my new Hypnosis clients.  Speak soon.....................................

Well here are are at the very gorgeous Thala Lodge Port Douglas which is 40 minutes north of Cairns Queensland.  We had a wonderful day.  It would be the perfect setting for running a workshop on Hypnotherapy.  It would be the perfect setting for running any type of workshop.
We did talk about work as this was the first time Megan, Shivany and I had met.  I was able to explain to them some aspects of being hypnotised briefly between mouthfuls of scones and delicate lemon tarts.  We drank lots of cups of freshly brewed tea then Megan gave us all a tea leaf reading.
Well it seems that I am certainly following my passion (Hypnosis).  I have planted the seed and now the 'tree' is growing beautifully.
Thank you Brenda, Megan (who took the photos on the day) and Shavany.  I cant wait for the time we meet up for more good food and excellent chatter.

Girl talk

Today I spent some time with 3 business owners here in Cairns.  We spent a wonderful morning at Thala Beach Resort north of Cairns just before you reach Port Douglas having morning tea.

The food was marvelous and the company stimulating.

Brenda is the owner of FNQApartments while Megan is the owner of The Junk Wave and Shivany owns Synthesis 345.

Amazing motivating women who know exactly where they are going, why they are doing it and how the heck they will achieve it all.

Tonight I am off to the launch of the 'new look' Cairns Life Magazine.  It will be held at The Salt House a very popular restaurant.

I am actually featured in this month's mag in the health section.  I am looking forward to see what they have done with my story........

BIKINI BABE

It has been 6 months since I gave up all sugars including the hidden sugars in processed foods (marinades, sauces etc).  I do however still use Xylitol to sweeten my tea.

My goals were to stabilise my weight and lose weight around my stomach.

Well my weight is now stable.  I no longer worry about what size clothes I will be wearing.  That day to day torment is over.  The new clothes I bought 4 months ago still fit and look good.  I actually feel really happy with the progress so far.  For years I have had at least 2 cloth’s sizes in my wardrobe as I was bloated a lot of the time.  I hid it well with large clothes saying that they were comfortable which of course they were however I was just hiding my body away.

Not only did my weight stabilise, it also means it stabilised my hunger and appetite.   I would eat every 2-3 hours….If I didn’t eat I would get cranky, tired or go a bit crazy.  So I always made sure I had some type of ‘healthy’ snack with me or work out where I would be able to buy something if I was out.

Now I eat 3 meals a day.  Occasionally I may feel a bit peckish in the afternoon so I will have a cup of tea or half a banana.  This does not happen very often.

The second part of my goal is to lose weight around my waist.  I know I need to because with my waist size as it is and my high blood pressure I am at risk of having a heart attack.  So going by Australian medical standards I have 10 centimetres to lose.   That’s 4 inches.  It seems a lot at the moment.  A bit overwhelming as I don’t want to go on a diet to do this.

So I have decided to exercise.  Now I am NOT a great one for exercise.  Basically I find it boring however I really need to do something about my health ASAP.

I have started Yoga and now I no longer have Fibromylagia my body seems to be coping very well.  I first started Yoga with my mother and perhaps my younger sister when I was back in high school.  It was many years ago….I have done Yoga on and off giving up (due to the FM) when my body could no longer take any of the exercises no matter how gentle they were.

I have also started walking along the beach going a little bit further and a bit faster each day.  This process could take months and that is fine with me.  At least I am doing something that is within my reach, something that doesn’t involve dieting and something that is sustainable for me.

So about a month ago I bought new swimmers or if you come from South Australia they would be called bathers.  These have 2 pieces.  Not a bikini but 2 pieces.  I love the feel of sun on my body and what a way to feel comfortable about my body (even with excess weight around my stomach).

First I wore them done to the pool here at the complex where I live, then today I wore them to the beach for my walk.  The first couple who walked past me smiled and said hello.  Neither burst out laughing or screamed and ran away.  Other people walked past me and just looked at my face and said hello.  I felt happy and relaxed.  I can do it.  I am doing it.

So I have given myself till September to lose some of the fat around my stomach.  That’s 4 months.

I am feeling a bit apprehensive.  Normally I would go on a diet and deprive myself of food.  Not this time.  Diets don’t work.  We all know that.  This is certainly about life style choices and I have made mine.  A sensible no sugar diet and some exercises.

Wish me luck!!!

Pick one day a week to detox the easy way

Hi everyone

Have you ever felt heavy, bloated, tired, hungover?

Well we probably all have at one time or another in our life.

What I do is every Monday I treat myself to an easy eating day.  I make up a big pot of Miso Soup with Veggies and that's all I eat.  I still drink unlimited amounts of water.

It is a great detox.  It tastes DELICIOUS and can be easily prepared.  You can eat as much of it as you like too.  I choose Monday as it is the start of a new week and lets face it sometimes we can over indulge on the weekend.

So here is the recipe.  Give it a go.  You have nothing to lose apart from that heavy, bloated, tired, hungover feeling.  and let me know how much you enjoy the Miso soup...........

Miso Soup with Veggies

Ingredients

500ml water

2 sachets of dashi

½ bunch coriander

1 tsp tamari

1 tsp sesame oil

1 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp ginger, finely chopped

1 tsp fish sauce

1 carrot, cut into sticks

1 cup Chinese cabbage, shredded

2 tbsp miso paste

1 handful bean sprouts, fresh

Method

Put first 8 ingredients (coriander stems only, finely chopped) in a pot and bring to a simmer.  Add vegetables and cook until tender.  Turn off heat and stir through the miso paste.  Serve in bowls with coriander leaves and bean sprouts.

Added extras

You may include some hard tofu which would be added along with veggies.

Also some Shitake mushrooms that have been soaked in hot water for an hour.  Add these with the first 8 ingredients.

too easy

So how easy is it to lose weight?  Well for me I'd say easy as.....easy as good healthy eating.
I tried on a pair of shorts and some gorgeous 'capri' pants that I haven't been able to fit in for a couple of years.  They fit and might I say look rather gorgeous on...

I haven't weighed myself.  Don't particularly need to.  All I know is that I can't put weight back on while I dont eat ANY sugars/honeys/lactose/corn syrup/golden syrup/fruit juice extract etc.

I dont eat any low-fat foods now either.  Low-fat foods are engineered to taste approximately the same as full-fat version.  The most common way of achieving this is to increase the sugar content, and then to increase the salt content to balance the additional sweetness.

Now if you like your wine as I do you can still have some.  Average red wine contains 0.6% per glass
which is good as I only drink red wine.  Average white wine contains 1.0% ......so since it is 'safe' to have 6 grams of sugar per day you can safely have a glass or two of wine.  With one important condition alcoholic drinks are ok for the recovering sugarholic as long as they don't taste sweet and they are not mixed with other drinks that contain sugar.  You can keep the dry wines, beers and spirits but you need to toss the dessert wines, ports, sweet sherries, liqueurs and mixers.

So it's not all bad news.  I stick to red wine on the weekends.  That's enough alcohol for me.

Rule #4

Rule #4

Don't concern yourself with fat content other than to steer clear of low-fat foods (They contain increased amounts of sugar to substitute the flavour)

Fancy that…..Manufacturers add sugar in many forms to low fat foods to increase the flavour.  Who would have thought!!!!

So it has been around 60 days since I gave up all sugars, including hidden sugars. No cravings at all.  Sometimes I will walk past a café and see yummy gluten free cakes however as soon as I look at them I laugh as there are no cravings.   I have no interest in anything sweet after almost 60 years of consuming sugar every single day.

The cupboards are still clear of processed food apart from tin tomatoes which contains some sugar.  We are allowed around 6 grams of sugar a day, so when we cook using tin tomatoes that small amount of sugar is negligible as it is spread over a large recipe consumed by more than just one person.

Our dips are sugar free as well.  I can’t wait til we move into our house and all our ‘stuff’ is out of storage as that will help me even more as I will be able to prepare/cook more recipes that are sugar free.

I had a client this week who said her whole family were overweight.  They ate well.  They were eating all the right foods.  Low fat food and lots of fruit and multi grain breads.

I asked her if she knew what hidden sugar was.  She didn’t.  So we went through the family diet.

Breakfast was cereal loaded with sugar, low fat milk, loaded with sugar, multi grain bread, again more sugar and a possible gluten overdose.  That in itself worried her.

She is really serious about changing her diet so I asked her to go home and check her pantry for hidden sugars.

We also talked about treats.  I offered some suggestions including the fruits that contained low amounts of sugar in them.  These included:

Rockmelon                                Watermelon

Cranberry                                  Strawberries

Gooseberry                               Honeydew

Raspberry                                 Pears

Plums                                       Kiwifruit

Mandarins

These fruit have 4 and less grams of sugar and are high in fibre so they could have a few pieces of them each day.  I explained that they can’t have dried fruits at all as they are loaded with sugar.

By this time we had done a few rounds of tapping as she felt guilty about what she has been feeding her family.

She left knowing that from that day on she will do better.

I can’t wait to see her again to see how she went with her pantry, and also to see if she continued with her tapping.

This woman has enrolled in my Healthy Lifestyles workshop even though it won’t be for months.  Good for her!!!!!

Ruke # 2

Rule #2  Do not snack on sugar

This is so easy now.  Do not snack on sugar.  Day 16 of no sugar/honey/fructose in my diet…Well that’s the official day however I was very excited about giving up sugar so I did start a few weeks before.  Anyway a few interesting things have popped up.

I sometimes miss not eating between meals…but only sometimes as I have always enjoyed the eating process…the tastes, textures, smells of food.  It’s really interesting as I will look at the kitchen clock and think that it is morning tea time then concentrate on my stomach and I am just not hungry.  I just can’t eat for the sake of eating now.  It’s the thought: “Well where will it go?”  There’s no room for any more food.  Not that I have a huge breakfast.  Oh well I shall be happy with my cup of tea.

In the afternoons again I wait to get hungry.  That low at 3pm (or whenever).  I wait and wait and it doesn’t happen.  So I no longer wait.  Food just isn’t as important as it was a month ago.  Now as I say this I still enjoy my food.  I love going out to eat.  That hasn’t changed at all. I am more selective now and am always aware of the ‘hidden’ sugar that people quite often don’t know about or think about.  The sugar in sauces etc.  I love Thai food and can cook it at home safely however to eat at a Thai restaurant now is a no-no as they use lots of sugar.  Sugar is one of their main ingredients for cooking Thai in case people start emailing back telling me about how much sugar is in Italian food etc.  Chinese and Indian cuisine doesn’t use sugar as a rule.

Now when I do eat is around 4.30 -5pm just when my husband gets home.  By then I am a bit nibbly but only sometimes.  Sometimes I have gone a whole day only eating 3 meals which has been unheard of for me as I would eat every 2 -3 hours.  I would have to as my blood sugars levels would drive me crazy and moody.  Doesn’t happen now.  I don’t have to leave the house and have snacks to take with me or work out where I would be and what cafes were around for my sugar hit.

In fact I just looked at the clock then and was surprised that it is midday.  I thought it was morning cuppa time.

So if I eat later in the afternoon it is normally a couple dry biscuits with a bit of hommos and maybe a slice of cheese.  That lasts till we eat dinner.

Too easy for me now.  I am not bloated anymore.  Yes I still have roles of fat around my stomach and with some exercise that will decrease, but I don’t have to wonder what size cloths I will wear today.  No need.  I now know from day to day that what size I wore yesterday will fit today.

I am still a bit amazed at all of this.  I still think I will ‘test’ myself.  But it doesn’t work.  I don’t want any chocolate.  I don’t want any cakes.  I can walk past café’s with my husband and I know he watches me and waits however I just look past the cakes even the delicious gluten free cakes.

So anyway Rule # 2   don’t snack on sugar.  No need when there are so many yummy alternatives.  Home made dips with celery and carrot sticks.  Cheese on dry biscuits.  One piece of fruit (if you can tolerate fructose).  Some yummy bread with vegemite…oh I don’t know….there are so many non sugar snacks that we can eat so why load our system up with a toxin.

Remember diseases linked to fructose consumption so far;

Weight gain

Type 2 diabetes

Polycystic ovary syndrome

Heart disease

High blood pressure (this is mine)

Gout

Depression and anxiety

Fatty liver disease

Cirrhosis of the liver

Liver failure

Acute pancreatitis

Kidney disease

Tooth decay

Happy Healthy snacking folks

Rule # 1

The rules

#1

Believe you are not being deprived or Have the right attitude

For most people the first emotion they feel when they go on a diet is one of being deprived of food.  I felt it over and over again without defining what I was feeling and working through the emotion.  So it was just stuck there and kept coming back.

It could have very negatives effects if not dealt with.  This emotion is the one that will sabotage your eating plan.  Now where it comes from no-one knows.  It could come from early childhood; feeling deprived of chocolate or lollies when everyone else has some.  It could be feeling deprived of love and attention.  Or it could be you were one of many children in a family always making a grab for food before your siblings got to it and there was none left for you.  Who knows….it could have come from any situation.  It could be a basic need to be fed; to survive.  For some reason though even if we have cupboards and a fridge full of good healthy food some of us may feel that there is not enough to go round so I better get in and get mine.

But we feel it and sarcome to it.  There goes the diet yet and we don’t know why.  All we know is we have failed again.

If we recognise this emotion straight away and actually delete it from our body and memory we will have a better chance of living a happier life.  If we feel deprived with food then I bet you also feel deprived in other areas of your life.

FasterEFT will help eliminate it for you.  Tap it away.  While you are tapping though, do think about other times in your life you have also felt deprived and tap them away too.

Now having the right attitude.  Well you need to want to make changes for yourself not anyone else.  Certainly not for approval or acceptance.  You have to want to give up sugar because you believe it is a toxin and your body doesn’t need it.  It’s really like any toxic thought we have.  We think about it so much it becomes entrenched into our daily life.  We keep it active by re-runs of the thought and situation over and over again.  We embrace it like a long lost friend.

So you have to be clear about what you want for your body and mind.   Your attitude needs to be one of enthusiasm and excitement to make permanent changes.  You need focus.  Thinking about what you want isn’t enough.  Believing you already have it helps.  Really living and feeling the changes each day and turn it into a habit while seeing sugar and all sweet foods as a toxin that will cause health problems for you.

Remember if you are new to tapping book in for a Skype session with me.
